Billy Bob Thornton is, as always, phenomenal
The realism here is undeniable, and you really feel like you’re getting an inside look at something most of us take for granted. He’s very good at playing gruff but deeply engaging characters. I do have to agree with some of the negative reviews about her character’s family drama, though: it’s not my favorite part of the show either. It’s a bit much at times, but I understand why it’s there. Family dynamics, love it or hate it, are part of the reality the show aims to capture.
Her speech was fire and completely turned the tide
That being said, episode 4, The Sting of Second Chances, absolutely blew me away. This episode introduced a new kind of energy with the female lawyer character – she’s a total powerhouse and a perfect foil for Billy’s character’s wife. Watching her steamroll the arrogant lawyers in the deposition scene was one of those “stand up and applaud” moments. It was inspiring to see someone so smart and unwavering carve out a place for herself in a male-dominated business. Watching her tell them to draw up a surrender document instead of an agreement was one of the most satisfying moments I’ve seen in a long time.
His drive and ambition are inspiring, especially when he tells his father, “I have the dream
Another standout story is that of Billy’s son, who is determined to build or run his own oil company from scratch. It’s not a play yet, but I’ll figure it out.” That line stuck with me. It captures the essence of the show: determination, ambition, and how to navigate the hard truths of life and business. Overall, Landman is worth watching, even if you’re clueless about the oil industry like I am. It’s deep, intense, and gives you insight into an industry we all depend on but rarely think about.

What I love most about Landman is how it captures the dual nature of pursuing a dream. The series reflects this beautifully and is a lesson for entrepreneurs, business owners, or anyone striving to achieve a big goal. Overall, it’s a deep and thought-provoking show that deals as much with the human spirit as it does with the oil industry. Highly recommended!
